One of the best parts about teaching your children phonics to learn how to read is how fun it is! There are so many opportunities to turn lessons into games. If your kids are having fun then it’s not going to be long before they become solid readers! Here are some ideas for fun phonics games:
Phonics I Spy: Put a twist on the old classic! Play I Spy with phonograms: “I spy something that starts with ‘B’! Can you find it?” Then have your child mimic you when it’s their turn. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by how fast they catch on.
Sing your way to success: Even if you don’t have the best voice, you can’t deny how fun singing is—especially with your child! It’s a lot easier to remember things when they’re set to music. I mean, who doesn’t remember the Schoolhouse Rock songs? “Conjunction Junction”, anyone? :) So use this to your advantage and make up songs and rhymes to help your child remember letters, sounds, and skills.
